1860's Walnut 10 Tin Pie Cupboard - Antique Handmade Jelly Cabinet

This Walnut Pie Cupboard has unusual form with the 10 Star Tins in the front. I will be putting period knobs on this piece but just did not get them on before picturing. This piece has been stripped without any top finish. Great Height measuring 79" tall by 39" wide by 15" deep.

This type of cupboard would have been used as a food storage cabinet and many times would be placed out on an unheated porch to stay cold during the winter months. The cupboard is in excellent condition considering the age and rodents would chew through these pieces to get to the food stored there.

Notice that the tins are hand done and punched out. many thought that flying bugs could not get in if the tins were installed this way. Metal tins with holes would help with ventilation. The case has wooden pins or called "pegged" and the back and drawers are hand champhered, evidence that it was hand made.
